The heart of the sight loss community.

Case Study: Action For Blind People

The Brief: Working consultatively from the beginning

The sight loss charity, Action for Blind People ("Action"), have gone through a period of significant change as a result of their association with the Royal National Institute of Blind People ("RNIB"), and wanted these changes to be reflected in their website.

Action wanted to utilise a modern and intuitive CMS that would be as future proof as possible, with a robust, flexible and scaleable development framework, in order to:

  • create a much needed community hub for visually Impaired people, and.
  • facilitate a deeper level of engagement with the visually impaired community, as well as Action’s various stakeholders and affiliates.

The Solution: A New Approach to Tradition

The approach to the new Action website is all about choice and opportunity; for the site to be the playground of its users, a happy place that they come back to frequently, that is a part of their day to day lives and is a trusted old friend.

Our philosophy was to provide real opportunities for people to share, learn & grow, to find the tools they need to get them where they are going and to enable them to participate in the inclusive society that we are all working towards.

And so, our solution was to create a website that provides users with:

  • Information on and access to Action's services,
  • Comprehensive resources about all aspects of sight loss , and
  • A Community environment to combat the isolation and encourage participation and inclusion.

The Result: Inclusive Design in Action

The Action website embodies the principles of Inclusive Design. It is beautiful and engaging, easy to use, highly intuitive and accessible, providing great user experiences for all.

The website's key end user features and functionality include:

  • Accessible Media Player
  • Ambient Content Referral
  • News
  • Blogs
  • Events
  • Site wide Keyword Search
  • Content Filtering
  • Downloads Area
  • Quick Email Newsletter Sign Up
  • User Accounts, with access to:
    • Action's User Participation groups at UP Central, and
    • Action Connect, to communicate with others.
  • Accessible forms for email sign up, registration and contact
  • Stylme style switcher

Client's thoughts

"With the considerable organisational changes that Action has been through, the challenge for the new website was to ensure it reflected these changes, whilst retaining the warm and welcoming grassroots feel that makes Action unique.

Copious met the challenge head on and worked tirelessly, above and beyond the scope of the brief, to deliver a firm foundation for our online proposition to flourish.

I am delighted with our new website and want to say a big Thank You to Copious for doing such a great job" Stephen Remington - CEO - Action for Blind People
